Professional Development Plan

In order to enhance teaching and learning each teacher must complete a Professional Development Plan (PDP) which is to be developed at the opening of each school year in a meeting with the principal. The plan should address the needs of students for whom the teacher is assigned. This data should come from the needs assessment section of the School Improvement Plan, student assessment results, nine-week grades, individual classroom assessment, or other student performance data. Training objectives identified must be clearly defined and the outcome of the training must be measurable through student performance data and other relevant benchmarks. Lastly, the plan should include measurement of the extent to which training activities accomplished predicted student gains. The PDP should be revised and updated during the year as needed. A copy of the PDP is to be retained by the principal.

Sections of the Professional Development Plan

Identification of Need Area(s)

In this section, the teacher must identify the student performance data used to form the basis for his/her PDP. This data must be related to the students to whom the teacher is assigned. To identify student performance need area(s), the teacher will review the following information: School Improvement Plan, Annual School Report(s), student achievement data such as student assessment results, reading inventory scores, nine week grades, and/or other relevant school documentation. The teacher will provide a rationale for selecting the identified student performance need area(s).

Training Objective(s)

In this section, the teacher will specify the training objectives expected to impact student performance; additionally, the teacher will identify what specific measurable improvements are expected in student performance as a result of the training activity. These objectives should be derived from the student performance Need Area(s).

Professional Development Activity (ies)

In this section, the teacher will specify the professional development activity(ies) to support each objective with dates for completion. In addition, the teacher will identify the focus of each professional development activity.

Evaluation

In this section, the teacher will specify the method(s) to be used to measure the effectiveness of the PDP by answering the following:

  1. What was mastered and implemented by the teacher?
  2. What was the impact of the implementation of the PDP on the students?

The teacher will also specify if the plan objectives were met.

At the end of the school year, an evaluation meeting will be held with the principal to discuss the accomplishments of the PDP.
