M-DCPS ADD-ON CERTIFICATION

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Eligibility

To participate, a teacher must

  • be a full-time instructional employee of Miami-Dade County Public Schools
  • hold a valid Florida Educator's Certificate or have established eligibility for a Florida Educator's Certificate
  • have acceptable evaluations- not be on prescription

meet the specific criteria established by the School Board, the Superintendent, or the Florida Department of Education for certification in the desired coverage area

Program

Participants are required to complete a Plan of Study which delineates the required courses for certification in the desired area(s). This form is available through the M-DCPS Add-On Certification Program at Location #9017 or by calling (305)995-7459. After approval by the M-DCPS Add-On Certification Program, the Plan of Study will be returned to the participant for safekeeping until coursework has been completed.

Participants in the Add-On Certification Program should complete all requirements with three years from the date of approval of the participant's Plan of Study. Extensions may be granted if conditions warrant.

A participant may apply appropriate content courses completed at a college or university within the past ten years toward the required courses. Each three semester course is comparable to 60 MPP.

Completion

The process for adding the new coverage area to a certificate involves two steps:

  1. The participant must submit Form CG-10 to the Florida Department of Education. Form CG-10 is available from the M-DCPS Certification Office (995-7200)
  2. The participant must submit the following to Professional Development & Career Advancement:
    • A completed Plan of Study
    • Transcript(s) for all coursework completed. TEC Inservice Transfer Record for inservice courses and official transcript for college/university courses.
    • Copy of Form CG-10 submitted to the Florida Department of Education
    • Documentation of a passing score on the subject area test where applicable. If not avaliable, a two-year non-renewable temporary certificate will be issued, pending subject area test scores.
      THE SUBJECT AREA TEST REQUIREMENT MUST BE SATISFIED BEFORE THE SUBJECT WILL BE ADDED TO A PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR'S CERTIFICATE.
