M-DCPS ADD-ON CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

Plan of Study for Middle Grades General Science, 5 - 9

Teachers working to become certified in Middle Grades General Science 5-9 must successfully complete six courses in the content areas of science and one course in the methods of teaching science in a middle school program, grades 5-9. The six content courses must include a minimum of one course in a biological science, a minimum of one course in earth/space science, and a minimum of one course in chemistry OR physics. To insure that these requirements have been met and the state- adopted competencies have been addressed, participants are required to successfully complete the courses indicated by an asterisk. Two other courses may be selected from those below which are listed by categories. All courses are 60 MPP courses.

Credits from college/university will be accepted for any of these inservice courses if the credits were earned within the past ten years and are from an accredited college or university.

**This requirement may be waived for a teacher who can present official documentation of having successfully taught science in a middle or secondary school.
