M-DCPS ADD-ON CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

Plan of Study for Earth/Space Science, 6-12

Teachers who are currently certified in biology, chemistry, and/or physics and are working for certification in Earth/Space Science must successfully complete the inservice courses approved by the Florida Department of Education for the M-DCPS Add-on Certification Program for Earth/Space Science,6-12. The courses required for certification in Earth/Space Science, 6-12 are listed below:

Earth Science

Meteorology

Oceanography

Astronomy

Geology

Environmental Science

Interdisciplinary Science

60 MPP

Teachers who are not certified in biology, chemistry, and/or physics must document the successful completion of a course in earth/space science taken within the past three years and complete the following courses in addition to those listed above.

Methods of Teaching Secondary Science*

Credits from college/university will be accepted for any of these inservice courses if the credits were earned within the past ten years and are from an accredited college or university.

*This requirement may be waived for a teacher who can present official documentation of having successfully taught science in a secondary school.
